Composting toilet by SEPARETT

Our new toilet which saves a considerable amount of water and can be seen here in it's temporarily position. It is now in the house and bit more civilised.
Everyday millions of gallons of expensively treated potable water is flushed down the toilet in the UK. Ideally we would all use rainwater to flush our toilets however this is not considered a practical option for most people. An alternative is to reduce the amount of water used in each flush.

Modern toilet cisterns use around 7-8 litres of water per flush, with pre-1993 models typically getting through 9-12 litres. This is far more than is actually necessary to flush a toilet fully and so one of the following products can be used to reduce the amount of water used per flush by 1-3 litres.

Composting must be the way to self sufficiency

Our Well is well worth it

Our water is sourced from the ground after much consideration we found our position and started digging well my son did then I joined in and crikey it was hard going. The ground here is very hard with bands of soft stone and hard clay. We dug to around 4 m as the water here is hi and soon we struck water.

Notice the all important beer encouragement

Still a bit further to go

What is Pyrography?

The act of producing drawings on wood or leather by using heated tools or a fine flame. This technique is used to create line or shaded artistic burnt impressions in wood, paper, or leather.

Home made Pyrography machine

I love my  pyrography but my simple soldering iron type just don't cut it anymore so I need to source some new kit. I have been looking at a few machines such as the Peter Child or any other Nichrome wire type wood burning tool. I have been producing items such as the pic below but would like to expand my wood burning ART.

After much deliberation I have decided the cost of such machines is high considering the simplicity of them. I will be making my own from some very simple items: A dimmer switch a 12 volt transformer and some nichrome wire. You will need to follow this post as I will be adding more info later.

Just had delivered my Nichrome wire so today I will set to make the prototype

Ebay to sell crafts

Now its time to make some money from my hobby and it seem to make sense in using Ebay as a selling platform the only negative thing I can see is the cost of listing and selling fee's. My Ebay Page

I would like to construct a new website and sell my items without the need to use fleabay but at the moment it may be a necessary evil. Check out my Flea Bay

My Home made fret saw Scroll saw

In the pursuit to expand my scrolling to the heights I decided to build a scroll saw using only the motor and switch from my commercial machine. The ability to weld was useful although my welding is poor. The machine is similar to the popular British built and supplied by Hobbies in Dereham Norfolk. The principle is two parallel arms working together to give a positive motion other machines which work on the same basis is the Diamond

Here are some pictures

Simple Allen machine screws clamp the blade
After some practice I have decided to improve the Blade clamps as it was difficult to change and the blades had a habit of twisting hence not running true. So I set about creating a new clamps after some dreaming I came up with 10mm allen key cut down with a slot for the blade, this can be seen below.

The insert was made from a 10mm socket to prevent the clamp from twisting and a bolt thread added to allow easy tensioning of the blade.

The bottom clamp is similar but without the tensioner.
